FUE HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
The extraction and implantation of individual hairs during hair transplantation is called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method. Follicular unit (graft) refers to naturally growing hairs, hair groups, follicle pairs or groups, therefore, not only to isolated hairs!
Besides the hair follicle and its base (papilla), the follicular unit includes the connective tissue around the follicle (matrix) as well.
During the FUE hair transplantation, follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area. The extraction is performed with a 0.7–1.0 diameter, special, titan-tip surgical instrument.
Micro-sized incisions, pockets are created in the balding area, and grafts are implanted with a special method. The FUE hair transplantation method might leave very tiny, dot-like scars in the donor area, invisible to the naked eye, unnoticeable even in those with a short hair. These tiny scars will fade over time and become undetectable.
The FUE hair transplantation is a very precise, advanced medical intervention. Follicular units need to stay intact during the extraction and the implantation process in order to ensure maximum hair growth.
Important information
Graft / Grafts
Graft is the smallest tissue unit that can be extracted from the donor area with the help of the FUE punch instrument.
During hair transplantation, as many hair bulb is in the graft, that many hair is going to grow out of it.
In average 1 graft contains 2 and 2.5 hairs. This of course varies, with darker hair larger grafts are common, while with the thin, blond or red hair there are more single or double grafts.
Donor area
Hairline
The line of the hairy area framing the upper part of the forehead that is different in shape in women and men. Designing a natural looking hairline, plays a main role in every hair transplantation.
A newly implanted hair line is successful when it does not produce an artificial effect, follows the natural anatomical points of the face, not resembling a geometric line, but a small wave-like line that looks just like the original hair line.
